MORRISON AND MARY WILEY LIBRARY GRIEVANCE AND DISCIPLINE POLICY

9/11/06

GRIEVANCE

Employees having grievances arising out of their employment with the library shall have the right to appeal to the Head Librarian.

When any employee, regardless of their job, feels that their grievance has not received due consideration during the in person conference, they are to place their grievance in writing and submit it to the Head Librarian.

In the event the matter is not satisfactorily handled, the employee may then request, in writing, that the Head Librarian submit the matter to the Library Board of Trustees.  At this time, after the reading of the request by the Head Librarian, the President of the Library Board of Trustees shall appoint a committee to investigate all phases of the situation.  In all cases, this investigation will include personally interviewing the employee concerned and the Library Director, as well as any other individuals that may have information about the issue.  After the committee has completed the investigation, it will then report to the Library Board of Trustees within two weeks of the start of the investigation.  The employee concerned, if he or she so desires, may present his/her case at this meeting.

The decision of the Library Board of Trustees is final.

DISCIPLINE

If an issue with an employee of the library arises the Head Librarian will discuss the issue with the employee.  If the same issue arises a second time the Head Librarian will meet with the employee again.  This will constitute a Verbal Warning.  During this meeting, the Library Director and employee will come up with a list of ways to rectify the issue.  If the issue arises again the Head Librarian will give the employee a Written Warning including what action the employee will take to rectify the issue.  If the issue is not rectified the Head Librarian may Suspend the employee.  During the Suspension, the Head Librarian will present all information to the Library Board of Trustees, who will make the decision whether or not to terminate the employee.

The decision of the Library Board of Trustees is final.
