MORRISON AND MARY WILEY LIBRARY STAFF
DEVELOPMENT POLICY
All staff members (excluding the janitor) of
the Morrison and Mary Wiley Library are encouraged to attend job-related
meetings and workshop offered by the State Library or Alliance Library System. Attendance
shall have the prior approval of the Head Librarian. On some occasions, job-related courses may be
required of an employee. The Head Librarian
will inform staff if there is a required course for them to attend. The library will pay for job related
meetings, workshops and required classes.
Employees will be considered to be in work status while attending such
meetings, workshops and classes and shall be reimbursed for reasonable expenses
(these expenses are listed as part of the Travel and Conference Policy).
Staff
members are encouraged to belong to professional organizations. The library will pay the basic annual dues
for the Library Director in either the American Library Association (ALA) or
the Illinois Library Association (ILA). The
library will provide tuition reimbursement for fee courses in pursuit of a
Masters of Library Science degree. Upon
the recommendation of the Head Librarian, the library will allow the tuition up
to the equivalent of the Community College tuition for job-related courses of
training taken by a staff member who works at least 20 hours per week. Staff members working less than 20 hours per
week may petition the Head Librarian for similar reimbursement. Approval must be obtained before the course
begins. Payment will be made upon proof
of satisfactory completion of the course.
Staff
meetings will be held at least once per month to inform staff members of
actions taken by the Library Board of Trustees, to plan or change services, to
instruct employees in various phases of library operation and to discuss new
techniques and procedures. Staff members
will be paid for the time of the meeting.
